Programs

About 21 billion UL Marks appear on products each year. Underwriters Laboratories® strives for certification programs that are convenient for manufacturers, trustworthy and reputable. To ensure the integrity of the UL Mark, UL has developed a holographic Mark that is very difficult to copy without authorization. To make the UL Mark more convenient for manufacturers who private label some of their products, UL provides a multiple listing service. And to make the data acceptance program convenient for manufacturers without lowering the high bar of reliability, UL has strict regulations on how its data acceptance policy is run.

Anti-counterfeiting

Product counterfeiting is a thriving multi-billion dollar global industry. Counterfeiters copy and sell anything that turns a profit, without regard to quality or safety. To prevent counterfeit UL Marks, UL has introduced a new holographic UL Mark that will be required in 32 common consumer product areas, including power supply cords, nightlights and ceiling fans. The redesigned label incorporates cutting-edge technology, elevated security features and a unique hologram design, making it easy to identify and validate, yet incredibly difficult to replicate.  Learn more.

Data acceptance program

UL's data acceptance policy dictates that regardless of where test data is generated and recorded, the methodology, requirements and conditions must be equivalent to those used for data developed and recorded at any of UL's global sites. Test data used for making the UL Mark certification decision can originate from several sources, including UL sites or affiliates, manufacturer's test facilities by manufacturer's personnel under supervision and witness of UL personnel, or at the manufacturer's or other designated facility under a laboratory quality program that has been assessed and determined by UL to be equivalent to UL's facilities for the performance of the testing.  Learn more.

Multiple listing service

Some products certified by UL to U.S. or Canadian requirements for one manufacturer are produced for marketing under the name of another company. Using UL's multiple listing service makes it possible for these manufacturers to market their products to a wider audience, and for private labelers to enjoy the advantages of UL certification for both the United States and Canada. With the multiple listing service, manufacturers and their private label distributors are authorized to use the appropriate UL Mark.  Learn more.
